Welcome to our May edition with updates, hints, tips and new products.

Coming home from work earlier in the week I spotted my first swallow of the year, hopefully a sign of things to come! The lawn is now growing strongly and needs attention and other plants have burst into life.

Jobs for the month - Most are listed below, you also can sow annuals and harden off and plant out seedlings - assuming you are in an area of the country where the danger of the last frosts has past..

With the average rainfall we've had this last few weeks, the slugs are making quite an advance. Rather than let the rest of the garden wildlife suffer, particularly hedgehogs, Growing Success have a new organic slug killer that has generated press interest - we were featured in the Times on 3rd of May with this item - 250g Slug killer has reduced shipping for a short period. The larger carton is featured on our front page.

Hanging baskets are now being planted out for the summer. At the moment we are stocking Gardman Metal Baskets, Natural Baskets, Tom Chambers Metal Baskets and Natural Baskets. Pictured is the Tom Chambers 14inch hand forged hanging basket and liner.

If you already have some Nova garden furniture, but wish to add to the set we can provide individual individual items. Many are listed here, if you cannot find what you need, please drop us a line. Pictured is the Nova Dorset Bench.

Weed and feed the lawn is a task that can be done now - to clear the winter moss and give the grass a head start. Two weeks after applying, rake or scarify the dead moss and weeds from the lawn. We have a special offer on weed and feed - two 200square metre tubs for £16.99.

With the birds starting to nest now, do please remember not to put out whole peanuts in a feeder where the birds can take them back to the nest whole, as they may choke chicks. Either use an enclosed feeder such as the Gardman large peanut feeder or feed with Peanut nibs.
